CHAPTER 1-ELECTRIC FIELDS

QUANTISATION OF ELETRIC CHARGE

This is the property due to which all free charges are integral multiple of basic unit of charge represented by e.
Representation| -e is a electron and +e is proton.
-------------------------------------------

COULOMB’S LAW

This law states that the force of interaction between two point charges is directly proportional to the product of charges and inversely proportional to the square of distance between them.

It obeys Newton’s Third Law of Motion

Where k is the electrostatic force constant
The value of electrostatic force constant depends on the nature of medium separating the charges and the system of units.
Where ɛ0 is called the absolute electrical permittivity of free space
